Descriptive Study of the Need for Biology Teaching Aids at SMA N 9 Jambi

The purpose of this research is to provide the necessary biological teaching aids for learning the reproductive system material at SMA N 9 Kota Jambi. The background of the research consists of few practical sessions, low use of interactive media, and limited teaching aids, all of which cause students to struggle with understanding abstract concepts. The qualitative descriptive method was used to collect data thru interviews with teachers and student numbers. This method was also used to conduct research on more than twenty open articles discussing the use of media in biology learning. The research results show that 83.3% of students did not participate in practicals this semester. Presentations are the most frequently used media by teachers, while 3D simulations, AR/VR, and simulation props are still very low. According to student perception scores, media helps in understanding difficult concepts and encourages students, but the lack of space is the biggest obstacle. Students like interactive media such as videos, animations, and 3D models, which provide a concrete learning experience. The best student experiences are related to the use of 3D anatomy models, while the worst experiences are related to media limitations, lack of teacher explanations, and the emergence of inappropriate jokes about sensitive topics. As a result of interviews with teachers, it was shown that the school urgently needs adequate reproductive system teaching aids if they want to improve the quality of learning. Overall, the research results indicate that obtaining more media and role-playing tools to support biology learning in high schools is very important.
